Stand aside Justin Timberlake. It’s ONE Championship’s turn to bring sexy back. That’s right, after signing with ONE in November last year, Yoshihiro Akiyama makes his comeback in Shanghai this weekend. He joins an all-star cast that sees two of Japan’s biggest exports make their debut at Madison Square Garden for Bellator 222. So let’s get into it.
ONE returns to China this weekend for an intriguing double header. Friday sees the return of the ONE Hero Series, before returning on Saturday for ONE: Legendary Quest. Both cards include a mix of MMA and kickboxing, but Saturday is all where the big guns come out to play. Champ-champ Stamp Fairtex meets young Australian prodigy Alma Juniku as she defends her atomweight Muay Thai title for the first time. The co-main event sees Agilan Thani turn around two recent losses against veteran Yoshihiro Akiyama. As usual catch all the action on the ONE Super App from 4:45pm Shanghai time.
Early Saturday morning RIZIN puts up two of its top stars to test their mettle against Bellator’s best. After a win at RIZN earlier this year Rena Kubota (8-2) returns to take on Lindsay VanZandt (5-1) in a women’s 112lbs catchweight bout. Bellator bantamweight Darrion Caldwell (13-2) and Kyoji Horiguchi (27-2) rematch on American soil. A difficult one to wath with Bellator’s streaming partner DANZ largely unavailable in Asia, accept Japan.
ROAD FC 54
Adding to a very busy Saturday is ROAD FC 54 in Wonju, South Korea. The main event will be the first title defense for middleweight champion La In-Jae. He takes on challenger Yang Hae-Jun, one of the most well-known Korean fighters of the last ten years. La’s rise to become the middleweight champion has been meteoric and he will be keen to cement this rise and prove he’s no longer a prospect. Unless you’re in Japan, there’s no legal way to watch ROAD FC 54 in Asia region, since its streaming deal DANZ kicked in. There are, of course, other ways to watch *wink* but you’ll have to contact us directly for that.
