Eduard Folayang defeats Ev Ting to retain lightweight title

ONE Championship returned to the Mall of Asia Arena last night for ONE: Kings of Destiny, where Eduard Folayang defended his lightweight world title, defeating Ev Ting by unanimous decision.

In front of a packed crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena, the 32-year-old Team Lakay fighter delivered a show for his home crowd, with improved striking, powerful spinning attacks and his trademark wushu attack.

“This is the essence of martial arts, five rounds to show how much we’ve prepared for a long time,” Folayang said.

“This fight means a lot. A lot of you were discouraged the last time I was here, I slept on that mat. I rose up from my circumstances. I needed to train a lot to improve a lot. This is it on my shoulder. Thank you for your support.”

The main event capped off a successful return to Manila for ONE, marking its 10th event in the Filipino capital.

In the co-main event, Folayang’s Team Lakay training partner Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon swarmed Finnish kickboxing sensation Toni Tauru with a relentless barrage of attacks to earn a verbal tapout win.

Tauru tried his best to keep the distance, but Belingon launched a furious offensive to close the gap, pounding Tauru with thunderous lefts and rights. In the end, Tauru had no choice but to bow out of the contest via verbal submission.

Resurgent lightweight contender and former featherweight world champion Honorio Banario marched to victory once more, stopping newcomer Jaroslav Jartim with a monstrous left hook and continued Team Lakay’s spectacular win streak.

Also back to the winning corner was 18-year-old Christian Lee, who took just 4:15 into the first round to get the referee stoppage against late-replacement opponent Wan Jian Ping.

Team Lakay striker Gina Iniong made her successful ONE Championship debut, besting Filipino-English fighter Natalie Gonzales Hills with a solid display of striking superiority.

Iniong dominated in the clinch with knees to the lower body and scored on a handful of takedowns. She then found a home for her powerful right hand which landed with great accuracy throughout the fight. After three rounds, judges saw the bout in favor of Iniong.
