Former UFC star Demetrious Johnson was in Tokyo earlier today to kick off what is arguably the biggest week for ONE Championship.
On Sunday, 13 October the Singapore-based promotion will host a double header in ONE: Century, set for the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo.
A handful of the promotion’s top talent including Johnson, Brandon Vera, Aung La N Sang and Angela Lee were on hand for the ONE: Century open workouts.
“It’s such an honor to return to Japan where I made my ONE Championship debut,” Johnson said.
Johnson returns to meet Team Lakay standout Danny Kingad in the finals of the Flyweight Grand Prix, one of two GP’s set for Sunday.
Also on hand to get things rolling was women’s atomweight champion Angela Lee. She returns to ONE after two hard losses at strawweight. She defends her title against reigning strawweight champ Xiong Jing Nan.
Lee said she has worked “extremely hard” to improve her game.
“I’ve taken a step back and collected myself after two tough bouts. They’ve taught me lessons and helped me realize a lot of things about myself as a fighter.
“I feel now that we have the winning formula.”
Lee said she was coming into the atomweight division where she was strongest.
“Make no mistake about it, I’m looking to end matters dramatically within the distance and successfully retain my ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship.”
