Former Invicta atomweight champion Ayaka Hamasaki will be fighting on Japanese soil once again.
After three and a half years with Invicta, the top ranked atomweight returns to Japan to make her debut with RIZIN against Alyssa Garcia in Fukuoka on 6 May.
“I’m very happy to be fighting in my home country again. I went to college in Fukuoka, so that also makes me happy,” she said during a press conference.
Hamasaki (14-2) is a Jewels Lightweight Champion who owns victories over the likes of Ham Seo Hee, Jinh Yu Frey and Mei Yamaguchi.
She said he break with Invicta was on good terms and she was ready to return home to a thriving women’s MMA market in Japan.
“I am very grateful that Invicta CEO Shannon Knapp sent me back to Japan in good terms. I think the level of women’s MMA has been growing at an extremely high rate and Kanna, RENA have grown tremendously as fighter in just one year.”
“I want to show the casual Japanese fans that there are still tough women out there, but again, I won’t take anybody lightly.”
