After going undefeated in his last last 10 fights, UFC is handing Liu Pingyuan his biggest test yet.
The UFC bantamweight has been lined up to face Ray Borg at UFC on ESPN 2, which takes place on 30 March (31 March in Asia) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
Liu(15-4) will be the third Chinese fighter to face a top-10 opponent, after Zhang Weili and Song Yadong.
Zhang is set to meet Tecia Torres at UFC 235 this weekend, her first top-ranked opponent in the UFC. Song Yadong was due to face Alejandro Perez on the same card, but had to drop out after suffering an injury.
Since losing to Zhang Meixuan in February 2013, Liu has racked-up 10 back-to-back wins, including two with the UFC.
Ahead of his last fight against Martin Day UFC Beijing, Liu was training at Team Alpha Male with Song Yadong, having jumped across from Jackson Wink MMA.
Ray Borg (11-3) returns to the UFC for the first time since losing to Demetrious Johnson at UFC 216.
The 25-year-old was was scheduled to compete at UFC 223 in April 2018, but his bout was pulled due to an eye injury he suffered when after Conor McGregor’s infamous bus attack.
The fight was rescheduled, but Borg had to withdraw for personal reasons. Borg’s most-recent bout, scheduled to take place last November, was cancelled three days prior to the fight due to medical reasons.
This main event of UFC on ESPN 2 will see Edson Barboza (20-6) face off against former WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje (19-2), while Karolina Kowalkiewicz (12-3) will met “Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson (16-6).
