Mizuki Inoue resumes her climb back to gold at Invicta 32

Japanese karateka Mizuki Inoue will resume her assault on the strawweight division when she faces Heather Jo Clark at Invicta FC 32 on 16 November 2018.

Inoue made her professional MMA debut at the young age of 16 in Japan’s Jewels. She went 5-1 then signed with Invicta in 2013 to face Bec Rawlings. A decision win over the veteran cemented her prospect status. Inoue then put an exclamation point on it by dominating the single-night Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup tournament less than one month later.

A failed weight cut cost Inoue her first shot at gold in DEEP Jewels, but a rematch proved that she was definitely superior to warhorse Emi Tomimatsu and the belt was strapped around her waist. Inoue went back to Invicta and put on two sensational matches with Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Alexa Grasso, although she dropped decisions to both.

She fought twice more in Invicta and defended her DEEP Jewels belt against Emi Fujino before being forced to take 2 years off for knee surgery and recovery. Inoue finally fought in March this year as a late notice replacement for Janaisa Morandin versus Virna Jandiroba for the Invicta strawweight belt. Inoue came up short in the split decision, and Jandiroba won the strap. The Brazilian defended it by getting her eleventh submission against Morandin at the past weekend’s Invicta 31.

Inoue’s next opponent has much in common with her, on paper. Clark’s been a professional since 2010, and her recent record reflects a few of the same opponents as Inoue, albeit in the UFC. Clark gets this shot at an Invicta ranker by winning her promotional debut against Kinberly Novaes in July.

The main event of Invicta FC 32 will be the Featherweight title match between Felicia Spencer and Pam Sorenson. Also, fresh off a decision win over KING Reina at RIZIN 12, former Invicta matchmaker Kaitlin Young will continue her second life in MMA against Zarah Fairn dos Santos.
