ONE Championship announces first boxing bout in Thailand

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai will headline ONE Championship’s next card in Bangkok.

ONE Championship has announced its next card in Bangkok will take place on 6 October. A first for the promotion in Thailand will be the fact that boxing and not MMA will feature as the main event.

Two time WBC super-flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai will defend his title in ONE’s first foray into boxing. The co-promotion will break ground in Thailand and the world, beating Zuffa Boxing to the punch.

Chatri Sityodtong, CEO of ONE Championship, said ONE: Kingdom of Heroes in October will be Thailand’s biggest event in martial arts history.

“Boxing, mixed martial arts and Muay Thai will join together under one roof to celebrate Asia’s greatest cultural treasure,” he said.

Thainchai Pisitwuttinan, Promoter of Nakornloung Promotion and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, said,

“Our work in boxing has always been driven by our passion and love… I am glad that our promotion and ONE Championship have coalesced in having a common mission and vision for combat sports athletes around the globe. I just cannot begin to say how massive of an event this will be. History will be made on 6 October.”

In attendance and expected to compete on the card were two of Thailand’s iconic fighters on the ONE roster, Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai, Rika “Tinydoll” Ishige.

Shannon Wiratchai said competing in front of hometown fans is always a great pleasure.

“It is an honor for me to represent my country. I will do my best to make my people proud. Since I joined ONE Championship, I have learned so much that it has helped me throughout my career. I feel that I am ready to take the next step.”

Rika Ishige said she was ready to make a statement in Bangkok.

“I have progressed a lot so far in my young career. The possibilities are endless for me, and I will continue to work hard to make my family and my fans proud. This is an awesome opportunity to showcase my skills at a big event this coming October.”

Three Muay Thai fighters were in attendance and will fight on the card, including multiple time Lumpini champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao. He debuted with ONE in April of this year, defeating Fabio Pinca by decision. Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex, WBC Super Welterweight Muay Thai World Champion and Lumpinee Stadium World Champion will also be on the card.

Another Lumpinee Stadium World Champion in two divisions, Petchmorrakot Wor. Sangprapai, who also holds a WMC Muay Thai title, was the third fighter announced.
