The dates and locations for ONE Championship’s flyweight and lightweight tournaments have been set.
CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced via social media that the lightweight grand prix will kick off at ONE: Call to Greatness in Singapore on 22 February.
The flyweight GP will begin at ONE: A New Era when the promotion makes is debut in Tokyo on 31 March. It seems likely that both recently signed former UFC champions Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez will make their ONE Championship debut in both.
While not yet official, the lineup for the lightweight GP should see the likes of Shinya Aoki, reigning lightweight champion Eduard Folayang, Timofey Nastyukhin, Ev Ting, Amir Khan and Ariel Sexton.
Demetrious Johnson is expected to compete alongside flyweight champion Geje Eustaquio, former champ Adriano Moraes, Kairat Akhmetov, Gianni Subba, Yuya Wakamatsu, Danny Kingad and Reece McLaren.
The dates come as ONE confirmed a three-year partnership with Turner Sports to distribute its live event coverage in the United States.
Per terms of the agreement, B/R Live – Turner’s live sports streaming service – will be the primary destination for ONE Championship live events each year. B/R Live will present its first live event on Saturday, 19 January, with 24 overall events scheduled in 2019.
ONE’s debut in the US market coincides with the UFC making its own debut on ESPN+ with a flyweight championship superfight between newly crowned flyweight titleholder Henry Cejudo who makes his first title defense against current bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw.
