Ishiwatari, Syuri Kondo get big wins at Pancrase 287

Pancrase returned to the Differ Ariake on 28 May with two big title on the line as part of Pancrase 287.

The main event of Pancrase 287 saw Shintaro Ishiwatari fend off MMA veteran Rafael Silva to retain his Pancrase bantamweight title.

Before the championship title-match signing ceremony, Ishiwatari expressed respect for Silva, acknowledging Silva as the winner of Bellator Tournament 2013 winner.

At first and second round Rafael used strong low kicks and takedowns. They were very strong pressure to Ishiwatari and he got these two rounds with “10-9” from all three judges.

But the third was a different story. Ishiwatari started to take offensive with strong punches and takedowns at scramble-phase. At the final round finally Ishiwatari got Rafael’s back and threw punches to the grounded Rafael to win this fight.

Shintaro Ishiwatari pours on the pressure.

After the fight Ishiwatari appealed strongly for a shot at UFC and RIZIN.

Former pro wrestler and Shoot boxer Syuri Kondo (近藤 朱里) has gone undefeated in MMA since getting a unanimous decision win over Kanna Asakura at Pancrase 277 in April last year.

At Pancrase 287 Kondo kept that momentum alive with a strong win over Brazilian Kinberly Novaes to claim the first Pancrase women’s strawweight title.

At 1st round Kondo attacked with her punches and kicks as a main weapon, but Kinberly was also good at striking.

Syuri Kondo mixed up her style to get the win at Pancrase 287.

Before starting the second round, all three judges expressed awarded the rounds to Kinberly. After hearing this result Shuri decided to change the strategy from fighting with punches and kicks to fighting with Muay Thai clinch to use knee kicks.

This change was effective for this fight and Kondo won this fight. Finally Kondo got the champion belt and expressed to her desire to fight at UFC.

In a women’s strawweight bout Tribe Tokyo’s Ayaka Miura pulled off a first round submission over Thaiane Souza, but the fight was declared a no-contest as Ayaka missed weight on her first and second attempt.

Ayaka Miura vs. Thaiane Souza was declared a no-contest.

It was also announced that former UFC Fighter Hideki Kasuya will fight Koyomi Matsushima at Pancrase 290.
