Sexton, Dagi advance through to Lightweight GP semifinals

A strong start to the ONE Championship Lightweight GP in Singapore, as Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev and Ariel Sexton punched their tickets to the semifinals in devastating fashion.

Costa Rican submission specialist Ariel “Tarzan” Sexton grappled his way into the semifinals by submitting Amir Khan with a rear-naked choke in the third round.

Sexton survived a number of huge blows and was relentless in his pursuit to take the action to the ground. After a gruelling second round, which seemed to slow down Khan, Tarzan began to capitalise, gaining the mount just seconds before the bell.

Early in the third round, Sexton regained control and easily took Khan down to immediately fasten the submission and force Khan to tap.

Dagi Smashes Ting

Saygid “Dagi” Guseyn Arslanaliev established himself as the man to watch in the Lightweight GP with a shocking 25-second knockout of Ev Ting.

One shot was all Arslanaliev needed, as he landed a massive left hook that immediately dropped Ting to the mat. Dagi finished the job with a series of ground strikes to earn the stunning knockout win.

Dagi will meet Sexton in the next round of the tournament after his dramatic third-round submission of Amir Khan.

“I think it’s going to be a tough fight, but I will be ready for it,” said in a post-fight interview.

The last quarter-final bout takes place at ONE: A New Era, as Eddie Alvarez squares off against Timofey Nastyukhin.
