Spider is out, DY un-retires for UFC Shanghai

Anderson Silva

A few weeks out from the UFC’s Mainland China debut and the main event has fallen to pieces.

UFC legend Anderson Silva has failed an out-of-competition drug test and been removed from his main event bout against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night Shanghai.

Early Saturday morning the UFC released a short statement saying it has been notified by the US anti-doping agency USADA that Silva failed an out-of-competition sample collected on 26 October 2017.

As a result, Silva has been provisionally suspended by USADA. UFC said it was seeking a replacement for Gastelum.

Meanwhile officials have announced a few additional bouts for 25 Nov, including Chinese featherweight Wuliji Buren (10-4), who will make his UFC debut in Shanghai when he takes on Filipino featherweight Rolando DY (8-6-1) at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Weirdly enough it was just a few weeks ago that DY said he had been released by the UFC and planned to retire.

Also set to make debut is BRAVE bantamweight Bharat Khandare and Pingyuan Liu (12-4), who comes to the UFC after lengthy career in Chinese promotions including RUFF and WuLinFeng.

UFC welterweight Bobby Nash (8-3) will also face another UFC first timer and Chinese standout Song Kenan (12-4). Song has fought with a number of promotions including ROAD FC and Chinese Kung Fu.
