PXC Laban MMA Corton vs Slalazar

PXC’s Laban MMA second installment happens on February 28, 2015 at the Baguio Convention Center in Baguio City, Philippines as some promising mixed martial arts prospects in the country aim to showcase their skills inside the cage.

Headlining the said event is a Flyweight match up between Baguio’s own Jon Chris Corton and Dennis Salazar of Team Insider Gym in Manila.  Both Corton and Salazar are scrappy on their feet and very explosive. Corton is a Shotokan Karate black belt while Salazar comes from a boxing background.

Team Lakay’s Corton is elusive on his feet and very economical in his offense. He fights smart and his quickness is going to be one of the major factors for him to win this fight against the heavy-handed Salazar.  On the other hand, Salazar loves to stay on his feet and brawl. He is one of those fighters you always like to see perform inside the cage because of his style.

This match has fireworks written all over it as two tough and gifted athletes go toe-to-toe inside the PXC Laban MMA’s cage. We may see a lot of differences from these two fighters on paper, but one thing they have in common is their win-or-die-trying attitude.

In the co-main feature of the night, Jomar Manlangit of Lean Muscle Gym welcomes Team Lakay’s Mark Stephen Loman in the Laban MMA cage.  Manlangit impressed a lot of spectators at PXC Laban MMA 1 last August of 2014 when he submitted Jayson Margalld via armbar in the opening round.  Manlangit’s ground game is as good as his Muay Thai. He throws heavy leg kicks and is active off his back.

Meanwhile, Loman has been out of the competition for a year and a half. His last fight didn’t go his way as he was knocked out by Asker Baragunov at Dare Fight Sports in August of 2013.  Since then, Loman doubled his time honing his skills. He also trained at Team Quest in Portland, Oregon for a few months during his vacation. Loman is one of those fighters who is gifted with physical abilities. He is a hard worker and has a very bright future in the sport. But he will be tested anew when he faces Manlangit.

Also,  Team Insider’s Marcelo Cabusas makes his mixed martial arts debut against another Team Lakay young gun in Delfin “The Hulk” Nawen, who is recently coming off a third-round RNC win against Sean Patrick dela Cruz at Highland Domination’s main feature scrap last February 7, 2015.  Cabusas has a strong boxing background and is currently improving his ground skills at Team Insider Gym. So fans can expect heavy leathers being thrown by Cabusas against Nawen come fight night.

Meanwhile, Nawen is one tough up and comer whose bread and butter is his wushu striking knowledge. He made his MMA debut in 2012 against Franklin Donglay and won the fight via third-round RNC win.  In December of 2012, Nawen faced Johnny Bitaga as one of the undercard fights of Team Lakay Championship 8. It was an exciting scrap between the two gentlemen until Nawen popped his right shoulder. Just a few people knew that he dislocated it, even the referee seemed to not recognized the injury that night. But he kept fighting with a single arm, managed to bring it back by himself while pinning his opponent on the ropes, and eventually got the second-round TKO.

So this fight between Nawen and Cabusas is one of the most anticipated bouts of the night.
