Haruo Ochi gets revenge, crowned DEEP strawweight champ

DEEP 79 Impact took place on 16 September at FULL HOUSE of Ohta-Ward Cultural Gymnasium.

Nagoya is a hot place for Japanese Martial arts. Nagoya is the city between Tokyo and Osaka and has 2.3 million population. It’s one sixth of Tokyo and one third of Osaka.

But there are many important players. RIZIN CEO Sakakibara-san is from Nagoya. DEEP CEO Saeki-san is also from Nagoya, as is former K-1 and Hero’s and current Ganryu-Jima producer Tanikawa-san. And many strong fighters. Former UFC fighter Hatsu Hioki, former Pancrase champ Takasuke Kume, current Bellator fighter Hisaki Kato, HEAT fighter Takeshi Kasugai all hail from Nagoya.

DEEP strawweight champ Sato is also from Nagoya. DEEP had a four-fight tournament to decide the first strawweight champ over a year and ago. Sato was a dark horse and Ochi was a favorite but Sato defeated Ochi at first match and became a champ. So this fight is a revenge fight for Ochi.

In the fight eager-to-win Ochi tackled and got take downs many times persistently to win reliably and won by decision. Tatsumitsu Wada from Yoshida dojo is a current DEEP flyweight champ, but unfortunately there was not a chance to fight recently – almost nine month absence from his last fight at RIZIN 2016 NYE. In contrast RAMBO Kosuke had four fights in two years, but struggled to win (1-3).

In the fight Wada used clinch many times to throw knee kick to RAMBO and got take downs many times. Finally Wada submit RAMBO with rear-choke at the end of round two.

There were three women’s MMA fights, including King Reina’s first cage fight. Kanako Murata’s first fight at DEEP, she needs to have fights for her MMA experience and Emi Fujino’s fight in Japan with one year absence.

King Reina showed her strength with striking and submission, Emi Fujino showed her slick submission skills with a rear-choke and Kanako Murata showed her advance in striking.
