Russian MMA promotion M-1 Global will be back on Chinese soil early next month with an interim title fight to headline WKG & M-1 Challenge 103.
With flyweight champion Alexander Doskalchuk injured, his teammate Alexander Pletenko steps up on short notice to face Chris Kelades for the interim title on Saturday, 3 August in Shenzhen.
Pletenko (14-4) and Kelades (13-4) will clash for a second time, the first being in June last year where Pletenko won via decision at M-1 Challenge 93.
After his victory over Kelades, Pletenko passed on an opportunity to challenge his friend Doskalchuk for the title and now has taken this title shot against UFC veteran Kelades on three-week’s notice.
In the co-main event, Chinese MMA star Huoyixibai Chuhayifu (11-3) takes on Frenchman Arnold “Silverback” Quero (15-7) in a bantamweight bout.
Huyixibai was riding a three-fight win streak until an illegal slam at the ONE Hero Series in June put a loss on his record.
The 25-year-old, who fights out of Warrior Fight Club, now returns to M-1 Global to face Quero who’s last two bouts have been under the Brave Combat Federation banner.
Other notable match-ups include undefeated Wang Zhen (5-0), who meets South America Muay Thai fighter Kayck Alencar at flyweight, while TUF alumni Hayden Hassan (8-4) makes his M-1 debut against Russian welterweight Movsar Bokov (5-1).
