Yoshihiro Akiyama returned to competition after four years and proved he still has the ability to throw down.
The 43-year-old pushed his Malaysian opponent Agilan Thani the full three rounds in the co-main event of ONE: Legendary Quest.
Thani opened the welterweight bout fast, landing a solid right hand, but quickly ended up on his back by an incredibly fit “Sexyama”.
At times, it was Akiyama who applied the pressure, despite some awkward moments which included a low blow and being thrown out of the ring at one point.
But the 23-year-old Malaysian kept the pace and pushed Akiyama hard, finding solid takedown and good combinations.
After three rounds, Thani was awarded the unanimous decision win and got back into the win column. Thani improves his professional record to 9-3, while Akiyama drops to 14-7.
In the main event of ONE: Legendary Quest, Stamp Fairtex defeated Alma Juniku via unanimous decision to retain the ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Title.
