Bi Nguyen has been forced to withdrew from her women’s atomweight bout against rising Japanese fighter Itsuki Hirata.
Nyrene Crowley, who came to fame during Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series, will now face the rising star Hirata. It will be her first promotional appearance.
“This was a hard pill for me to swallow,” Nguyen said in an Instagram post. “I was having an amazing camp, my weight was great, and I was pumped for my bout Feb 07.”
Nguyen said about two weeks into her camp she hyperextended an elbow.
“I held out hope that it would heal in time but unfortunately I still can’t straighten my left arm.
“Despite all of this I still wanted to compete, but thanks to the amazing people in my corner and the amazing staff at ONE Championship I came to my senses. I needed to push my ego aside and make the right decision for my health.”
Nyrene Crowley made her professional MMA debut in February 2017 and will be up against a rising star in Itsuki Hirata. The Tokyo native has defeated all five of her opponents in ONE. Most recently she forced Rika Ishige to tap out at ONE: Century.
