KEVIN BELINGON aims to climb over Santacana to the top of ONE FC

Seven months ago, Kevin Belingon faced Masakatsu Ueda for the ONE FC Bantamweight Tournament final at the gigantic SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Philippines.

Ueda showed his experience and displayed a lot of courage when he recovered from Belingon’s solid punches and soccer kicks to his face.Though all bloodied up, Ueda stuck to his gameplan, which was to take the Filipino fighter down and control him on the ground. Ueda captured the Bantamweight Tournament trophy by defeating Belingon via Unanimous Deicison.

Though he came up short in that last fight, Belingon promised that he would bounce back against David Aranda Santacana of Spain. “I made a lot of mistakes in that fight with Ueda,” Belingon shared. “I had a hard time defending his takedowns and getting up from being pinned. But I will try to win (against Santacana) and make my countrymen proud,” Belingon assured.

Wrestling has been the biggest hole in all of Team Lakay’s game, and that is why the Baguo-based MMA team brought a former Olympic wrestling coach from Iran to help them sharpen their wrestling skills. “Having Coach Ali on the team is a huge factor on our side,” Belingon shared. “He has taught us some techniques that we never encountered before and he really pushed us to the limit everytime we trained with him,” added Belingon.

December 6, 2013 at the SM MOA Arena, Belingon will face another tough fighter, a guy who submitted all of his nine opponents and is the top bantamweight fighter in Spain today. Belingon aims to redeem himself from his last fight as he takes on the undefeated Santacana as the co-main event fight of One FC – Moment of Truth. “We’ve watched a lot of Aranda’s fights and he’s got decent striking too. I think he has a good overall MMA game, so this won’t be an easy fight for me. I will do my best to beat him tonight,” Belingon said.

Belingon possesses a very shy demeanor, but inside the ring he is like a monster who is always ready to slay anyone in front of him. A lot of Belingon fans are asking ONE FC to schedule him a rematch with either Soo Chul Kim or Ueda after he faces and hopefully defeats Santacana, but the Filipino fighter doesn’t want to think of those rematches yet. His focus is solely on Aranda tonight. “I don’t want to look past Aranda,” he shared, “I respect the guy. If I win tonight agianst him, it is up to the ONe FC officials if they want to set me up a rematch with Kim or Ueda. But as of this moment, my attention is one hundred percent on David Aranda.”

This fight is a huge one for Belingon as he is coming off a disappoitning loss against Ueda in front of thousands of his countrymen. Belingon aims to make his Filipino fans happy by scoring an  impressive win over the highly-regarded Spanish fighter, “Fans can expect fireworks for this fight, Belingon promised. “I and my team mates really prepared for this event and we will do our best to make our supporters happy.”

Belingon will be no doubt the crowd favorite and heavily favored to win the fight. But don’t count Santacana out yet as he has the skills to score an upset.
