Ahead of his next featherweight title defense, Martin Nguyen says he’s more ready than ever to retain his ONE Championship crown.
“I want to say congratulations to Koyomi Matsushima for earning his title shot. I’m sure he’s been working hard, but this this is my division…and still.”
Nguyen (12-3) will be looking for his third consecutive win when he headlines ONE: Dawn of Heroes inside the Mall of Asia Arena on 2 August.
The former two-division champion headlines a stellar card, that includes some of ONE’s more recent talent acquisitions in Eddie Alvarez and Demetrious Johnson.
Those men will be vying for a spot in the lightweight and flyweight grand prixs – set for Japan later this year.
Alvarez is set to face former lightweight champion Eduard Folayang, while Mighty Mouse will square off against Tatsumitsu Wada.
Folayang told the ONE: Dawn of Heroes press conference it was time to write another chapter in his storied MMA career.
“Eddie [Alvarez] is one of those athletes that I spent a lot of time watching before. My preparations have gone well. I lost my belt last March. That chapter of my career has closed. It’s time to write another chapter of my journey.”
The 14-fight card will broadcast live on the ONE Championship mobile app from around 6pm local time.
