Josh “Hedgehog” Alvarez to be Koetsu Okazaki’s new opponent at ONE FC 13 “Moment of Truth” happening on 6 December 2013 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Philippines.
Following Leandro “Brodinho” Issa‘s signing wight the UFC to fight in the Singapore card on January 4, 2014, former Bantamweight contender Koetsu Okazaki was left without an opponent for the next match. Sources close to the situation confirmed the news that Guamanian bantamweight standout Josh Alvarez will go up against Okazaki on December 6th..
Okazaki’s ONE FC debut was against Bibiano Fernandes at ONE FC 9 for the Interim Bantamweight Championship. The Japanese warrior fought off the well-known Brazilian’s submission attempts through a full five rounds but dropped the fight by the judges’ decision. Okazaki was originally scheduled to fight one of Evolve MMA’s top fighters in Issa, but since he signed with the UFC couple of days ago and will make his debut at UFC Fight Night 34 in Singapore, Okazaki found himself without an opponent.
Then came Alvarez, one of Guam’s most prolific Bantamweight fighters. Well-known to the Filipino fans, he has competed in PXC on Philippine soil three times. Alvarez is currently on a five-fight winning streak that includes four first-round stoppages. He aims to score his sixth straight win on December 6th against the highly-talented Okazaki, who needs to end his two-fight losing skid. Both will look to cement their first ONE FC win.
Headlining the “Moment of Truth” card is a World Featherweight Championship between the current champion Koji Oishi and the former title holder Honorio Banario. In the co-main event of the night, top Filipino bantamweight fighter Kevin “Silencer” Belingon welcomes undefeated Spanish submission specialist David Aranda Santacana inside the ONE FC cage. Also, former number one-ranked Strikeforce lightweight fighter Caros Fodor looks for his second win in ONE FC against fan favorite and Muay Thai champion Vuyisile Colossa.
