Pancrase 296 took place on 20 May 2018 at Studio Coast in Tokyo.
After participating to Pancrase Masakatsu Ueda had no experience to challenge title shot because the champ of his weight class was his team mate Shintaro Ishiwatari.
But Ishiwarari couldn’t fight for a long time because of his injury so Pancrase decided to have a match for interim king of Pancrase. At the same time Ueda decided to retire after this fight so this fight was a first and last title fight for Ueda.
For Rafael, a Bellator tournament winner in 2013, he showed his strength with the fight vs Ishiwarari in the end of last year. Also he had a right to have this chance.
The fight was almost a cage-wrestling game and Silva won with unanimous decision. After losing this fight Ueda said he had no regrets.
“I respect him and I will retire from MMA.” And he put off his gloves and put them in center of the Pancrase cage.
Masakatsu Ueda from PARAESTRA Tokyo, is a humble, but strong fighter officially retired with the record 26 wins, six loses and two draws.
Once Hanzo Tanaka VS Hirohito Uesako, 7th DEEP feather weight champ was originally set as a semi final fight, but Uesako failed to make weight and had to hospitalised.
DEEP Jewels and ROAD FC fighter Emi Fujino took INVICTA fighter Shanon Jacobson and this fight was set as a semi final fight.
Fujino is famous for her hyper make weight and recovering. According to the data from Pancrase, Fujino was 52.65kg at weigh-in and she was 59.6kg at fight day, a massive +7kg (+13.2%) recovering in one day. Jacobson was 57.8kg at fight day.
After winning Fujino stated “BBA is strong”. BBA is a nasty way to call old women in Japanese.
With this fight Fujino could show her MMA skill are world class, but she will now be looking to prove herself at the top ranks of Invicta.
Pancrase CEO Sakai-san disclosed the schedule for 2019, adding 11 shows to its schedule.
There are now six remaining cards for Pancrase in 2018.
Sakai-san also revealed a plan with JBJJF Chairman Nakai-san that the Pancrase Jui-Jitsu Cup 2018 would take place on 15 and 16 December.
