Pancrase is on the hunt to crown a new women’s strawweight champion.
With the departure of current title holder Viviane Araujo to UFC, the promotion has announced a four-women strawweight tournament to decide a new strawweight queen.
The semi-finals will take place at Pancrase 308, set for Studio Coast on 29 September.
One half of the strawweight tournament announced this week includes women’s MMA veteran Emi Fujino, who meets Nori Date at Pancrase 308.
Fujino (23-11) faced Araujo for the title at Pancrase 298, but lost after an eye injury stopped the fight. Fujino is coming into the tournament having defeated Kseniya Guseva earlier this year.
Her opponent Nori Date (3-3) returns to competition after some three years. Date already has a loss to Fujino from DEEP Jewels in 2015. Since then the 20-year-old has faced the likes of Mizuki Inoue and Yuko Oya.
Two other bouts have been announced for Pancrase 308. Rilley Dutro (13-5) will return for his second Pancrase bout to meet Toru Ogawa (11-7) at flyweight, while a strawweight clash sees Takafumi Ato (9-9) face Yusenohama (2-0).
The Pancrase 308 lineup includes:
· Emi Fujino vs. Nori Date
· Riley Dutro vs. Toru Ogawa
· Takafumi Ato vs. Yusenohama
