Ben Askren will return to the Singapore Indoor Stadium for the first time in two years to face Demian Maia in the main event of UFC Singapore.
“Funky” Askren has talked up the fight on Twitter, last week announcing it was a done deal. The UFC has now confirmed the fight will take place inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday 26 October. The prelims start at 5pm local time with the main card scheduled to begin at 8pm.
For Askren, it will be his first time competing in Singapore since signing with the UFC last year. His last performance inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium ended with a 57 second first-round stoppage of Shinya Aoki.
He will be up against a formidable grappler in Maia (27-9), who has previously challenged for the welterweight and middleweight titles. With 21 wins (the second-most in UFC history) Maia holds victories over some of the best including Jorge Masvidal, Jon Fitch, Carlos Condit and Chael Sonnen.
Askren was riding a 19-fight win streak until being violently knocked out by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239 last month. The Wisconsin resident has held both the Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight titles.
Announced bouts include:
Demian Maia vs. Ben Askren
Michael Johnson vs. Stevie Ray
Ciryl Gane Don’Tale Mayes
Sergei Pavlovich vs Maurice Greene
