A potential match up between the two men seemed inevitable, given the back-and-forth over the past few months.
“The Last Stylebender” unified the belt after knocking out Robert Whittaker at UFC 243 in Australia. The Nigerian-New Zealander was expected to defend his title against Paulo Costa, but the Brazilian is injured.
UFC 248 will go down at the T-Mobile Arena on 8 March. A co-main event will see strawweight champ Zhang Weili defend her belt against Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Adesanya remains undefeated in his MMA career. His epic run with the UFC has seen him defeat the likes of Anderson Silva, in addition to a “Fight of the Year” performance against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236.
Romero will be coming into the bout with a loss against Costa at UFC 241.
