UFC 2020 roster, including UFC 249, are now on hold

Jessica Andrade and Rose Namajunas will not run it back at UFC 249.

Was it ever a possibility? Maybe. Maybe not. But Dana White’s ambitious plan to hold UFC 249 on a far-flung island is on hold. For now.

In a brief statement, the UFC said the interim lightweight title bout between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje, along with all other events, will not happen.

the UFC said while it was “fully prepared” to push ahead with UFC 249, its broadcast partner ESPN put a halt those plans.

“ESPN has requested the postponement of the event and subsequent bouts until further notice in light of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement said.

“UFC looks forward to resuming the full live events schedule as soon as possible.”

What that looks like is currently unknown. UFC is just one part of a widespread shutdown of not just MMA, but all sports, globally.

Across Asia, this has already seen the likes of Pancrase, RIZIN, ROAD FC, ONE Championship and DEEP either cancel or put their events on as the widespread COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc.
