UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili has had her fair share of run-ins with US visa officials. But that is may now be a thing of the past.
After posting about her troubles with US visa officials, Zhang is now training with none other than US presidential hopeful Tulsi Gabbard.
After getting the green light for her US tour, the representative for Hawaii’s second congressional district was at Roufusport training with the newly crowned champ.
“Today I had the honor to meet and train with Miss Tulsi Gabbard,” Zhang said in an Instagram post.
“She is a very strong martial artist. We had a great training session taught by Coach Duke Roufus and his team. It is a happy day when martial arts brings people together.”
Gabbard herself is no slouch. She has trained in various martial arts from an early age and isn’t afraid to get down and dirty. This should come in handy as the US presedential campaign picks up steam.
As for Zhang, a clear opponent has yet to emerge for her first UFC title defense.
After her win at UFC Tampa, Joanna Jedrzejcyzk took the time to call out Zhang Weili for next bout. Zhang, however, is having none of it. She says Jedrzejcyzk “isn’t the fighter she used to be” and would rather face Rose Namajunas.
Either that or she heads up a division to face flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, who Zhang described as “one of the best female fighters”.
It’s fun at the top, isn’t it?
