Fight Nights Global 89 is going to take place on sudden notice this 8 September in Bozhou, China. The main event is a middleweight match between kickboxing champion Vladimir Mineev and Brazilian standout Julio Cesar Araujo Fernandez. A majority of the fights will be Russia versus China.
Mineev (10-1-0) is an aggressive striker who avenged the only loss of his record with a stunning first round KO of massive journeyman Maiquel Falcao. Fernandez (8-1-0) has a background in Thai boxing states FNG, however five submission wins on his record prove he’s got an excellent ground game.
In the co-main event, grappling whiz Ma Shuang drops back to his bantamweight frame to face Konstantin Kireev. Ma put on a terrific display of his ground skills in an extremely controversial match against Mahach Aliyev. Aliyev grabbed the cage so many times that the referee should have been given the red card. Ma held on to what looked like a knee bar and then the ref just decided – with no tap out in sight – to award the Chinese fighter the win.
For the Russia versus China matches, cage grabber Aliyev will face Yue Zhengzheng this time, another smaller bantamweight who rises a weight class to meet him. Grappling savvy Sergei Lyubimov is back in action against Mongolia’s Huser. And a women’s match at 52kg is set between Darya Mikheeva and Zhang Xin Miao.
