Surging women’s strawweight Yan Xiaonan has remained undefeated in the UFC.
The Beijing-based fighter improved her UFC record to 4-0 after a hard-fought unanimous decision over Angela Hill at UFC 238 in Chicago.
Scores were 29-28 across the board for Yan, who improved her overall record to 11-1.
“Angela Hill is a very tough opponent, I had to be very smart in this fight against her,” she said in a post-fight interview.
The hallmark of Yan’s game is keeping a high pace and throwing combinations. That strategy was on full display in Chicago.
While she opened their preliminary bout in full “Fury” mode, Hill nearly finished matters with a deep triangle choke in the final second of round 1. Yan survived and went on the attack as soon as the second bell rang.
“I made a mistake letting her get me in that position, I was not expecting it,” she said.
“But I didn’t feel that the fight was over, that’s why she didn’t make me tap out.”
Yan has established herself as one to watch in the UFC’s women’s strawweight division and matchmakers will no doubt be looking to book her a top-ranked opponent sometime soon.
“I deserve a ranked opponent next, I don’t want to call anyone out, but I want to make into that top 10.”
