DEEP Cage Impact Full Card

DEEP Cage Impact takes place at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan on June 15th.  For Kasuya Toida’s Retirement Ceremony, DEEP stalwarts and stand outs such as Choi DooHo, Sakurai, Imanari, Kikuno, and Kazunori pepper the card.

While the main event, a superfight between Choi DooHo and “Boost Samurai“, promises to bring the entire Korakuen hall to its feet, there are many other exciting matches taking place at the next DEEP Cage Impact event.  Before the “Korean Superboy” makes his next thrilling battle against fellow KO artist Shoji Maruyama – a battle which is not for a much-deserved title and thus alludes to possible movement on the horizon for Choi – a few other stunner matchups versus Koreans will take place on the card.

DEEP Featherweight Champion Kazunori Yokota will take on Kim OonKyeom who’s been training with ROAD FC‘s LW Champ Nam YuiChul as possibly a consolation prize for not getting to face the other Korean – Choi – for a title match a year ago.  Yokota hasn’t seen a loss since a string that started with Tatsuya Kawajiri and ended in 2010 against Jadamba Narantungalag, so he’ll be looking to put away the upstart early.  Kim’s grappling prowess as the winner of his division in the recent King of Grappling competition might have a little bit more to say about it.

The other Korean facing a DEEP stalwart is Kim JongWang, once a PRIDE and K-1 HERO’s player, who will face another big man in Seigo Mizuguchi. Seigo put Kim away with a scarfhold in under a minute just one year ago, so Kim will be hoping his recent 15 second KO of Yoshihisa Yamamoto will propel his confidence – and his fists.

Former Championship challenger heavy hitter karateka Kikuno Kazunori steps in the cage following a streak of three excellent wins to face DEEP stalwart and UFC vet – from a decade ago – Jutaro Nakao. Kazunori may seem the favorite on paper given Nakao’s ripe age of 42, but with a win over Shinya Aoki by KO – back in the day – as well as many other Japanese vets, and the fact that he hasn’t been finished in five years, means he’s an apt opponent for the man with hands that chop boards.

Eternal heroes Middleweight Ryuta Sakurai and Light Heavyweight Sakuragi Yuji will both make their first trip back to Korakuen after Kazuo Misaki‘s retirement event at the end of 2012.  Sakurai will likely grapple the heavy hitter in a fashion that’s comfortably grabbed him recent wins over Hiromitsu Kanehara and Yoshiyuki Nakanishi.  Yuji, recently faced with this game and choked with it by Daiju Takase, won’t want a repeat performance and should go head hunting early.

There won’t be a dry eye in the bleachers as Kasuya Toida has decided to call it a career, but whether it will be from sadness or train-wreck watching remains to be seen.  Toida will put on an exhibition match for his Retirement Ceremony with none other than the Master of Painful-to-even-watch Leglocks Masakazu Imanari.

Earlier on the card, one of DEEP’s sponsors has put up a cool 300,000Yen prize if Hirada Yoshiki or Koichi Ishizuka can knock the other out within 30 seconds.
