Fight Network Signs Deal with Pancrase to Air New Events, Classic Fights Catalogue

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, announced today a broadcast partnership with legendary Japan-based mixed martial arts promotion Pancrase to broadcast its latest events, as well as compilation shows from its extensive fight library.

The pioneer of modern mixed martial arts in 1993, Pancrase has staged over 250 events. The classic fights will include names synonymous with the sport, including Ken Shamrock, Frank Shamrock, Bas Rutten, Semmy Schilt, Evan Tanner, Carlos Condit, Chael Sonnen, Yushin Okami and Nate Marquardt.

Still grooming world-class talent to this day, Pancrase stages over 15 events annually across Japan.

“We already feature some of Asia’s premier mixed martial arts organizations, including ONE Fighting Championship, DEEP and ROAD Fighting Championship,” said Chad Midgley, VP of Programming & Production at Fight Network. “With arguably the most storied past of any MMA promotion in history, Pancrase is a perfect addition to our international MMA programming line-up. We look forward to breaking down all the classic events as we’ll showcase fights that helped popularize the sport internationally.”

“MMA is no doubt booming in Canada,” said Masakazu Sakai, CEO of Pancrase. “Canadian fans are among the most knowledgeable and the country is certainly a hotbed for the sport. Starting with our international partnership with Fight Network, I’m looking forward to reintroducing the world to the Pancrase brand and hope they will become fans of our many emerging and exciting superstars. I also look forward to bringing the Pancrase promotion to Canada for a future event.”

Pancrase events will air chronologically on Thursdays at 2 a.m. ET, beginning with Pancrase 244 from Jan. 12, 2013, featuring Hiroki Aoki vs. Kohei Tokeshi.

Fight Network will announce a dedicated weekly timeslot for the classic archive shows in the coming weeks.
