After disappointing news that UFC 176 was scrapped due to Jose Aldo’s injury and thus title fight postponement with Chad Mendes, good news for a bright fight was announced.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto received conformation from Dominic Cruz that his comeback fight has been scheduled for UFC 178 on September 27, 2014 in Las Vegas. Cruz will face Takeya Mizugaki.
Cruz hasn’t fought since his title defense win over Demetrious Johnson in 2011, and was subsequently forced to relinquish his belt due to knee injury. The injury sidelined him from an anticipated rubber match with Urijah Faber at UFC 148 following the two coaching TUF. However, given his 19-1 record with his sole loss avenged against Faber, he is still ranked at #10.
Mizugaki is ranked #6 and rides a 5-fight win streak going into this bout. The Shooto and Cage Force Champ has made his ascent at determined pace, with his recent spree all being by way of decision.
Headlining UFC 178 is the Heavyweight title bout between Champion Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson.
