ROAD FC Lightweight title match: Kume Takasuke vs Kwon A-Sol
ROAD FC Lightweight title match: Kume Takasuke vs Kwon A-Sol

The weigh ins for ROAD FC 17 took place on August 16, 2014 at the Grand Hilton Ballroom in Seoul, South Korea.

All fighters on the main card and all but one fighter on the undercard made weight, and all matches are green lit to go.

Former Lightweight Tournament finalist and championship contender Kume Takasuke faces recently ranked Kwon A-Sol for the ROAD FC Lightweight belt which was recently vacated by Nam Yui-Chul as he signed with UFC. Kume’s pair of wars with Nam broke his streak of nine submission victory finishes. The contender learned a great deal from those losses to Nam which he shared in this interview here.

Kwon (finally) made weight with no issues. After returning from military duty and getting KOed in his first fight back, Kwon finally may be humbled by the offer of the title shot. He’s earned it by successive chokings over Muay Thai Champ Mostafa Abdollahi and Brazilian top ranker Giovani Diniz.

One of the hottest prop sects in Korean MMA right now, Lee Yun-Jun, is back to face Thiago Silva. Lee lost out to eventual finalist Song Min-Jong in the Bantamweight Tournament, but since then he’s been on a tear, defeating the likes of Takafumi Otsuka and most recently Giovani Diniz as the headliner for Korea vs Brazil. On that same card, Silva faced Moon Jae-Hoon and got the crap kicked out of him before shouting do or die and submitting Moon in the third. It will be a test of Lee’s grappling ability, but only if he allows the fight to go down.

Two smashers meet one another as Kim Dae-Sung steps in for Ahn Sang-Il, out with broken ribs, to face Park Jung-Kyo. Kim made a very impressive striking clinic in his last match, whereas Park KOed Minowaman who had to be stretchered out. Don’t. Blink.

K-1 and Glory kickboxer Yoo Yang-Rae is going to try his hand at MMA and he will do it against Kim Nae-Chul. Kim is not easy to knock out. He has proven that he can clinch and grind it out tot he bell. It should be interesting to see if he tries the shoot, and if Yoo has anything to show for his 6 months of hard core MMA training.

The final of the night is Song Ga-Yeon versus Emi Yamamoto in a women’s 48kg bout where both fighters are making their pro MMA debut. It’s pegged for the last match for the Korean fans who have been drawn to Song’s many appearances on television since she became known a a “beautiful fighter”.

Song started as a bit of an internist sensation because of two kickboxing bouts with men which she won. When ROAD FC CEO Jung Moon-Hong met her at an amateur MMA event, it was her looks that stood out, but he watched her progression and eventually offered her a spot on the ROAD FC official gym’s fight team. Our full interview with Song’s tragedy to triumph story can be read here.
