ROAD FC 18 takes place on August 30, 2013 in Seoul, South Korea. Another top women’s match is set between South Korea’s own champ Ham Seo Hee and Ukrainian prospect Alonya Rassohyna.

Ham “Little Cutie” Seo Hee (18-5), the current Deep Jewels Featherweight (48 kg) Champion, faces Alonya Rassohyna (10-3), a promising submission artist hailing from the Ukraine. This is the second time Ham is stepping into the cage this year under the ROAD FC banner. For Rassohyna, this will be her first time fighting outside of Europe.

Ham Seo Hee, the #2 ranked women’s atomweight in the world, so far has had a long and illustrious career in Japan. Fighting in the land of the rising sun has given her many experiences to elevate her game to the best of any promotion.

The kickboxing specialist has been sharpening her skills in Busan, South Korea with Team MAD and then utilizing those techniques in many different promotions throughout the years. Her style is mainly to push forward and mix punches and kicks to back up her opponents. Similar to her training partner, Kim Dong Hyun, she possesses a breakneck left hand. That is why she has earned the nickname Hamderlei Silva.

In her most recent fight at ROAD FC: Korea 3, she put on a clinic against the American prospect Shino VanHoose. She displayed a full arsenal by dominating on the feet and when she desired she went to the ground and reigned down punches at will. She went on to earn a unanimous decision without leaving much doubt in the eyes of the judges.

On the other side of the cage come fight night there will be standing Alona Rassohyna. For the first time in her career she will be cutting down to atomweight after being a strawweight for all of her matches. It seems that this will be a more natural weight class for her because most of her opponents have been bigger than her.

Rassohyna’s career has mostly been in promotions spreading across Europe. Nonetheless, this does not mean she has not faced tough competition. Her last outing was against Kayja Kankaanpaa, who is ranked #7 in the world at strawweight and fighting for the vacant Invicta strawweight title. Rassohyna fought hard but it was clear that Kankaanpaa was just too big and powerful. In that fight Rassohyna did have some bright moments in some of the standup exchanges.

It seems that her striking is coming along as she trains more and gains more experience, yet her most impressive achievement is her eight wins by armbar. She is a threat when it comes to the ground and anyone that is brave enough to go to the mat with her must be careful.

Fight Analysis:

Both these fighters are at different points in their careers. Rassohyna is an up and coming fighter trying to make a name for herself and Ham is a veteran of the sport that has fought the best in the world. In this matchup, Rassohyna has everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Ham has more wins under her belt than Rassohyna has fights. Experience and the level of competition she has been in the cage with will favor the South Korean. Since she has very good striking, she will need to stampede the Ukrainian with kicks, knees and punches to overwhelm her. She will have to impose her will so Rassohyna will fold under the pressure of fighting someone with such a big name.

Ham will be better off not going to the floor but if that does happen then full mount would be the preferred position for her to punish Rassohyna with ground and pound.

If her previous fight is any indication then Rassohyna will be comfortable standing with Ham. Rassohyna has good leg kicks so she needs to establish them early in the fight so they can slow down her opponent. While this is happening, she will have to mix in some punches to set up takedowns. She would probably want to take it to the ground and go for submissions since Ham has been submitted before via armbar. She has to go in the cage with confidence and not let the pro South Korean crowd get in her head.
