ROAD FC announces Lightweight Championship fight Kume vs Kwon for August 17th

ROAD FC Lightweight title: Kume Takasuke vs Kwon A-Sol
ROAD FC Lightweight title: Kume Takasuke vs Kwon A-Sol

Hot on the heels of the upcoming Flyweight Championship at ROAD FC 16, the promotion will see another title awarded in the Lightweight division at ROAD FC 17.

Kume Takasuke and Kwon A-Sol will face each other for the chance at taking home former Champ Nam Yui-Chul’s belt, which he relinquished when he signed to the UFC earlier in the year. Kume already tasted the gold against Nam twice and was denied it by way of grueling battles that were nail-biters and difficult to score. Nam powered through both times in the final minutes. The title contentions snapped Kume’s incredible nine win streak of submission finishes.

Across the cage will be ROAD FC’s answer to Chael Sonnen with heavy hands, Kwon A-Sol. He has his own personalized walk out song, in case there are any doubters of his legacy. Long considered one of the top Korean exports, Kwon took a break for military service, then unceremoniously returned with two losses at ONE FC against Eduard Folayang and ROAD FC against Koji Nakamura. But then he got back on the horse and took out Mostafa Abdollahi and Brazilian black belt Giovanni Diniz both by way of surprising submission.

With Kume adapting Nam’s grinding style in his last outing, and Kwon showing he has a new ground game in his bag of tricks, the next contest for the Lightweight Championship looks to be a fun one.

Also on the card, hot rod Lee Yun-Jun is back in action against Thiago “Machinha” Silva at bantamweight. Lee is one of South Korea’s hottest up and comers who is riding a 4-fight win streak over the likes of current DEEP Bantamweight Champ Takafumi Otsuka and Japanese prospect CORO Terashima. He will face one of the three Brazilians inducted to ROAD FC in their Nation vs Nation campaign,. Silva was absolutely battered in two rounds by Moon Jae-Hoon, but he dove for a takedown and quick submission in the third to seal the deal in his favor. SIlva will face a big puzzle in Lee, and Lee could be severely challenged by Silva’s extraordinary heart and ground skills.

The battle of the beauties ROAD FC has been taunting will also happen at ROAD FC 17 as former round girl Song Ga-Yeon makes her MMA debut at 19-years old against Emi Yamamoto, also a debutant in the pro leagues. Son’gs forte is her kicking skills which have been on display all over Korean television, whereas Yamamoto has a six year base in traditional kendo, plus an amateur record. ROAD FC banks on Song to throw down, but irregardless there will be lots of eye candy for this one.

Prior to this card, ROAD FC 16 takes place on July 26th in Gumi, South Korea. More about the Flyweight Championship can be found here.

ROAD FC Lightweight Championship: Kume Takasuke versus Kwon A-Sol

Kume Takasuke rose to the top of the Lightweight division by defeating everyone in his path with quick submissions – until he met Nam Yui-Chul in the Finals of the Lightweight Tournament. A legendary 3-round battle ensued, and it was so close that the judges called for an overtime. Nam was triumphant on that day, but Kume was so brilliant that an immediate title challenge was granted him.

The second Championship match was another blowout, and while Kume showed his developing wrestling prowess, Nam won the outcome again. It was the first pair of losses on Kume’s record in almost four years. He rebounded with a dominant performance over Brazilian black belt Eduardo Simoes in which he showed a wrestling game remarkably resemblant to Nam’s.

Now Kume will once again get his rightful shot at the ROAD FC Lightweight strap which has been vacated by Nam following his departure to Ultimate Fighting Championship. Standing in his way is another tough home-grown slugger with an impressive resume, Kwon A-Sol.

Kwon notched up wins over international opponents throughout seven years in the sport in Spirit MC, Legend FC, HEAT, Gladiator, and Sengoku. Following his mandatory military break, the controversial fighter returned to ROAD FC and was felled with a head kick by Koji Nakamura which might have stopped his career cold.

Kwon proved that he is as tough as his own claims. He immediately returned to the cage and rebounded with back-to-back finishes of Muay Thai Champion Mostafa Abdollahi and top-ranked Brazilian Giovanni Diniz.

Kwon’s shot at the title against Kume promises to bring a lot of talk and speculation from ROAD FC fans, as well as from the outspoken Kwon himself. But in the cage, it will be fireworks from the opening bell!

Lee Yun-Jun vs Thiago Silva, Song Ga-Yeon vs Emi Yamamoto

This match up is guaranteed to be an emotional roller coaster of excitement!

Also as previously announced for ROAD FC 017, 19-year old sensational kickboxing beauty Song Ga-Yeon will be making her MMA debut alongside fellow beautiful newcomer Emi Yamamoto. Song’s strength in stand up has been tempered with her grappling training at the Official ROAD FC Gym, and she will look to use it against Yamamoto who already has amateur MMA experience from Japan. Emi’s six years in traditional Kendo give her a very unique stylistic background. These two young ladies will bring deadly beauty into the ROAD FC Cage on 17 August, 2014!
