ROAD Fighting Championship has signed Issei Tamura of Krazy Bee/Yamamoto Sports Academy, recent UFC veteran and Shooto Rookie winner. Tamura will debut with the promotion on the next card, October 12, 2013
ROAD FC staff today confirmed to MMA-in-ASIA that they have signed Issei Tamura to compete within the promotion. Tamura got an early break in his MMA career when, at just 6-2, he was signed by the UFC as a last-minute replacement of Leonard Garcia against ZhangTieQuan. The 2008 Shooto Rookie winner and Krazy Bee product was the underdog at UFC 144 Japan, so when he KOed the highly-touted Zhang in just 32 seconds in his own country, many eyes were opened to his potential. He was subsequently fed to more wolves in quick succession and dropped two losses to 17-4 Raphael Assuncao and wrestling stand-out/TUF finalist TJ Dillashaw.
Tamura (7-4) will now return to action in Asia with South Korea’s ROAD FC. Recently, ROAD FC took on many Japanese fighters including Michihiro Omigawa, Takafumi Otsuka, and Ryo Kawamura. CEO Jung MoonHong’s revelation of his intentions to host a show in Japan in 2014 coincide with the promotion’s added talent to the roster. Other foreign opponents signed to the promotion include Minowaman, Joachim Hansen, Andrews Nakamura, and Luis Ramos. Also recently signed was undefeated Brazilian prospect Bruno “Robusto” Miranda from the Carlson Gracie Team.
