Team Lakay Championship 8 went down December 14, 2013 at the Baguio Convention Center in Baguio City, Philippines and showcased some of the young up-and-coming talents from the Cordillera region.

In the main event fight of the night, the always-entertaining Jerome Wanawan ended his two-fight losing skid by scoring a Unaninous Decision victory over a very tough opponent, Dindo Camansa. Camansa tagged Wanawan several times with his pinpoint strikes, but the Team Lakay fighter used his wrestling to take the fight to the ground and imposed his ground-and-pound game to grind out Camansa.

In the co-main event bout, one of Team Lakay’s young prospects, Tristan Rebuyaco, stayed undefeated as he overwhelmed Jun Gallano with his very impressive wrestling and ground and pound. Rebuyaco dominated the fight from the get-go showing some crisp striking and solid wrestling. Rebuyaco’s much-improved grappling and ground and pound game were the biggest factors of the fight as he unleashed heavy hammerfists from the top that made Gallano tap in the second round.

Delfin Nawen, despite popping his right shoulder out twice in the first round and popping it back in by himself, scored a second round TKO victory over dangerous striker Johnny Bitaga. In the opening seconds of the fight, Nawen went for a takedown, but in the process he dislocated his right shoulder so he went back up immediately and initiated the clinch game. Nawen tried to fix it while using his left arm to holding Bitaga against the ropes. After a few tries he succeeded then took Bitaga down. Nawen went straight to the full mount and smotherd Bitaga with heavy shots, and that’s when his shoulder popped out the second time, but yet again he fixed it himself. Nawen stopped Bitaga in the second round by way of ground and pound.

If there’s one fighter who stood out last night, it was Joshua Pacio. The 17-year-old successfully made his MMA debut in an impressive fashion by overwhelming Denver Songaben with deadly punches from the top. He defeated Songaben in the very first round by way of TKO. Another Team Lakay prospect showcased his impressive well-rounded MMA game as Gerard Gamsawen of Lakay La Trinidad Gym routed Sonny Buclay in the second round with punches for a TKO.
